6 Tips for a beautiful dahlia bouquet

A dahlia bouquet can be a great addition to every kind of party, celebration or ceremony. It is also a fantastic gift for your loved ones. Dahlias are perfect bouquet flowers and therefore we will give some great tips to make your own colourful bouquet full of dahlias!

1 Pick the right moment for a dahlia bouquet

A dahlia bouquet should be all about beautiful colours, shapes and live. Therefore you obviously want your dahlias to be at their best. With vibrant colours, fully bloomed flowers and firm petals. Dahlias are usually peaking durng the (late) summer months, between August and October. That’s the right time to start decorating your dahlia bouquets!

2. Try to mix different colours and varieties

Dahlias come in a wide range of shapes, sizes, and colours. So try to combine different types so that you can create different textures, dephts and effects. For example, try to mix ball dahlias with peony dahlias. You can also mix different coloured dahlias. Pink and white go great together for example, espacially when you are looking for wedding bouquets. And yellow and red create amazing summer fibes. Off course, you can also go nuts with all kinds of colours!

3. Also use filler flowers or greenery

You do not have to only use dahlias in a dahlia bouquet. It sounds a bit strange, but try to also use other greenery components. You can balance out the dahlias (off course the showstopper of your bouquet) with cosmos or eucalyptus. Add some more texture to your bouquet by adding greenery. This way your blooming dahlias will be a real eyecather.

4. Go for a playful dahlia bouquet

Dahlias create happiness and they are truly fun flowers. So why not make a playful bouquet? For example, arrange larger dahlias first and gradually add smaller ones to it. You can create a cascading effect! Or how about you create some symmetry to your dahlia bouquet? Or experience with a more chaotic flower bouquet. Everything is possible!

5. Keep your dahlias fresh and hydrated

Dahlias need enough water to stay pretty and vivid. It is therefore important that you take care of them after you cut the dahla flowers for your bouquet. Cut stems at an angle to maximize the water absortion of your dahlias. Remove any leaves below the waterline to prevent possible decay. And of course: use fresh water, in combination with a flower preservative, to maximize the bouquet’s life.

6. It's all about the finishing touch

Once you’ve gotten all you favorite and matching flowers for your dahlia bouquet, it’s time for the finishing touch. You can wrap your bouquet in beautiful kraft paper or you can ty it all together using a colourful ribbon. Place your bouquet in a beautiful vase that lets you see the dahlias in a perfect way.
